KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Knoxville Tourism and Sports Corporation President and CEO Gloria Ray will be placed on administrative leave with pay a committee decided during a special session on Tuesday.
Kim Bumpas, the current senior vice-president of sales, was appointed to serve as the interim president. Both moves are contingent upon the full board's approval at the next regularly scheduled meeting on February 17, 2012.
Bumpas said her number one concern right now is dealing with the public's perception of the corporation.
"I really want to talk with people one-on-one because you get a truer message of what they're thinking and what they're feeling," said Bumpas.
"We're very excited about being more transparent," she added.
Last Friday, Ray agreed to retire in two weeks if the two sides attorneys are able to reach an agreement. She has come under fire since revelations about her earning $410,000 a year, including large bonuses, and three months of vacation time came to light
The meeting comes a day after Local 8 News learned Knox County will investigate $185,000 given to KTSC. The county's external auditor will oversee the investigation.
County Law Director Joe Jarret says he doesn't think there's a legal basis for the money given back in 2009.
KTSC's attorney, Ward Phillips, says they will fully cooperate with any audit or investigation the county requires.
Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett says a closer look at the money is needed.
