Knox County to investigate KTSC

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)--The money was given to KTSC in May 2009, but County Law Director Joe Jarret says he's unaware of a legal basis for the appropriation.

So the county's external auditor will oversee an investigation.

KTSC Attorney Ward Phillips says KTSC will fully cooperate with any audit or investigation the county requires.

Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett says the audit is needed.

Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett says, "We're not accusing anybody of anything. If it's not we'll ask for them to give taxpayers money back. So it's completely appropriate and we probably need more of it in government."

Last week, KTSC President Gloria Ray agreed to retire in 2 weeks after the details in her contract are worked out.

Ray came under fire for making $410,000 a year, getting hefty bonuses, and having 3 months of vacation time.
