LMU again asks judge for injunction, claims harm

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Lincoln Memorial University is again asking a judge for an injunction granting conditional accreditation to its law school.

In a motion before U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Varlan, Dean Sydney Beckman stated applications to LMU's Duncan School of Law have fallen 26 percent and eight students have withdrawn since the American Bar Association denied provisional accreditation to the school in December. The motion was filed Wednesday according to The Knoxville News Sentinel.

In his Jan. 18 ruling denying the injunction, Varlan noted Lincoln Memorial was, at that time, unable to show actual harm to its law school.

Accreditation is an assurance that a school's education meets quality benchmarks.

Lincoln Memorial filed an appeal with the American Bar Association on Jan. 19 asking the organization to reconsider provisional accreditation.
