Man shot in chest during argument with father

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Maryville man faces a Domestic Aggravated Assault charge after allegedly shooting his son in the chest during an argument Sunday evening.

John Tilden Kirkland, 64, is being held on $15,000 bond at the Blount Co. Correctional Facility, according to the Blount Co. Sheriff's Office. A spokesperson added he is scheduled to appear in court on February 10 at 9 a.m.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the victim 44 year-old Christopher Kirkland, is listed in serious condition at UT Medical Center.

Police reports indicate that deputies found the younger Kirkland inside a home on Andrew Way when they arrived around 7:30 p.m. Witnesses told authorities the Kirklands were arguing when they heard gunshots come from the living room.

Officials said more charges could be forthcoming as the investigation continues.
