Parking lot gun bill would apply to public sector

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Lawmakers have tried before to pass a bill guaranteeing employees' ability to store firearms in vehicles parked at work.

A new twist to this year's version of the bill is that it would apply to both the private and public sectors.

The measure sponsored by Republican Sen. Mike Faulk, of Kingsport, and Democratic Rep. Eddie Bass, of Prospect, is scheduled for a vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.

Republican Gov. Bill Haslam has in the past voiced support for requiring businesses to allow guns in parking lots. But a spokesman said in an email that the administration has "concerns with the breadth" of the latest version.
