Police still waiting for skeleton to be identified

LOUDON COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - Police still haven't identified the bones discovered by a man and his nephew in Loudon County.

Two weeks ago, the two were about 150 feet into the woods off Eblen Road near the Sugar Limb exit off I-75 when they found human remains wrapped in a blanket.

So far, forensics experts have ruled it's a woman, and at least 25 years old. But not much else is known at this point.

Harvey Green says he and his nephew, Josh, were just looking for scrap metal when they stumbled upon an old shed.

They thought they had struck gold, but to the side of the shed Josh found a blanket.

"So anyway we rip the comforter open, he picks the head up and course he drops it, and says yeap that's a body turned face up," said Green.

He says he'll never forget that image. He says her brown hair strands were wrapped in a blue bow tie, and the upper body covered by a black jacket with red stripes.

They called police right after. That night, officers started looking for clues to where she came from.

"The disposing of the body was here, but where did the death occur?" asked Loudon County Sheriff Tim Guider.

Not to mention how she died, among other questions raised.

Sheriff Guider has been in contact with several counties, looking through missing person's lists and using dental records to eliminate ones that don't match.

He says lab results will take a while since all they have to for DNA is bones.

"All I can say if there is anybody that has any knowledge, to come forward," said Guider.

"I see these things on TV then there it is real. It's something I never wanna see again," said Green.

Green hopes the body is identified soon, because he can't imagine what the woman's family must be going through not knowing where she is.

Another body was found on the property eight years ago, but Guider says this discovery is not related.

He encourages anyone who may know who this person is to contact the Sheriff's office.
