NASHVILLE (WVLT) -- Tennessee Health Department officials say they are leading a national E. Coli Outbreak Investigation that may be tied to frozen pizzas.

And today, General Mills says it's recalling almost five million frozen pizzas sold under the Totino's and Jeno's label because of possible E. coli contamination.

So far the Tennessee Health Department says there have been 21 cases of E.Coli linked to this outbreak.

Eight of those cases are in Tennessee.

Illnesses have been reported from mid-July to early October.

A spokesperson for the Tennessee Department of Health says five people required hospital treatment, but all eight have recovered.

General Mills says the problem may come from pepperoni produced at an Ohio plant and put on the Totino's and Jeno's frozen pizzas.

They are recalling 414,000 cases of pizza products.

Symptoms of E. coli can include stomach cramps and diarrhea. People typically are ill for two to five days but can develop complications including kidney failure.
