(WVLT) -- Debit and credit cards have become a way of life, and many people don't think twice before they swipe their plastic.

Tuesday, a bust was made in the biggest identity theft case ever in this country, but not before as many as 10 major businesses had their computer systems broken into in early 2007.

More than 40-million debit and credit card numbers ended up in the hands of hackers from across the world.

Stores like TJ Maxx, Barnes & Noble, Marshall's, and BJ's wholesale were all victims.

Now, a year-and-a-half later, arrests were made for 11 people allegedly responsible. Of those 11, only three are American citizens.

Charges include computer fraud, wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, and conspiracy.

Officials say the total dollar amount of the alleged theft is impossible to measure at this point.

We want to know if you were one of the millions who fell victim to this crime.
