GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WVLT)-- Ober Gatlinburg is hosting the 27th annual Special Olympic Winter Games. More than 200 athletes will compete in ice skating, alpine skiing, and snowboarding.

Monday they lit the ceremonial torch with a team of athletes skiing down a slope at Ober Gatlinburg. The competitions will continue through the Tuesday with an awards ceremony to finish up the games.

Even though it's been a mild winter; the ski slopes were covered with snow. Ober Gatlinburg has been working to make enough snow for the winter games. They're hard work played off and the games started without a hitch!
