BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) -- Interpol agents have captured a "dirty war" fugitive who ran a secret government detention center under Argentina's military dictatorship of the 1970s.
The official Telam news agency says that former Lt. Col. Julian Corres was captured in the town of Villa Constitucion in central Argentina.
Corres escaped from jail on July 26. The 56-year-old is being investigated for abuses at "La Escuelita" detention center there.
Federal prosecutor Hugo Canon told local television station Todo Noticias that Corres had "altered his appearance." Monday is an Argentine holiday and calls to Interpol were unanswered. The international agency apparently is involved because officials feared Corres could have fled to another country.
