UNION COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - The sheriff office says burglars have ripped off more than 40 homes in the past five weeks, but deputies arrested four suspects Tuesday that they say are partly responsible.

More arrests could be coming. The two adult male suspects and two juvenile male suspects already face a combined 17 burglary charges. More could be on way as the investigation continues. Sheriff deputies say burglars typically hit up more homes during the summer, but this number, more than one a day, is anything but the norm.

"This right here is much of the stuff they recovered," victim Gary Loveday said.

Gary Loveday has hundreds of dollars worth of his life back.

"It's just crazy you can't leave your own home, and not have your stuff when you get back," Loveday said.

When he got home from helping plan his grandmother's funeral early Tuesday morning, "The gate was open like this and we knew that someone had come in the yard," Loveday said.

He found burglars had busted into his Union County home. The took property and Loveday's puppy.

"I was already tore up about my grandmother passing away, then that come on top of it, I just about lost it," Loveday said.

Loveday's just the latest victim in string of burglaries across the county.

"Makes you sure scared to leave home really," Union County resident Clayton Miller said.

The sheriff's offices says burglars have hit up more than 40 homes in the last five weeks.

"It varies, some years, there's heavy burglaries, some years there's not. this is pretty heavy," Union County Sheriff's deputy Mike Butcher said.

Most of the break-ins have been in the Luttrell area near Loveday's home, but after Loveday called 911 "the Union County sheriff's office brought in four suspects into custody: two adult males, and two 17-year-old juveniles," Butcher said.

Together, the four face a combined 17 burglary charge. Deputies say they also recovered thousands of dollars in stolen property, mostly electronics and weapons.

"We feel they have a very active role in the burglaries in the Luttrell area," Butcher said.

But investigators don't thing they were the only ones involved, and deputies say they expect more arrests to come.

"Just get these people in jail. Get them off the street," Loveday said.

The Union County Sheriff's Office hasn't released the names of those arrested. That's because the sheriff says they could be the connection to future arrests.

The four were arrested in Knox County, along Rutledge Pike. The reason for all the burglaries is still under investigation, but the sheriff says it could be drug related.

I hope these are the people that broke into my house. About 3 weeks later someone tried to break into my storage shed. I am getting sick and tired of it. They done this in broad daylight to. I was beginng to think the Union co. sheriffs dept. wasn't trying to do anything. Keep up the good work and I hope you get the rest.

you go boys I have been living in Luttrell for about a year now and have had crazy things taken and happen. My dog was stolen from my fenced in yard (in broad daylight, mind you) With gas prices so high I kept getting gas stolen from my tank, my air let out of my tires just to name a few. Thank you Union Co Sheriff Dept. for getting these off the streets. My 6 y/o and my family still miss and cry for our stolen puppy daily.
