BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP)-- A morning ceremony, an evening candlelight vigil and small, reflective gatherings all day will be Virginia Tech's way of marking a year since the mass shootings on campus.
It was last April 16th that Seung-Hui Cho (sung-wee joh) killed two students in a dorm room, then 30 students and faculty in a classroom building hours later, before killing himself as police moved in.
Some families of victims say they can't bear to attend the official events, which include a moment of silence at noon followed by the tolling of bells.
Other commemorations around campus are designed to be low-key. A dance presentation is in memory of Reema Samaha. Honors students Austin Cloyd and Maxine Turner are to be remembered with a tree planting.
Norris Hall, where Cho and 30 others died, is closed today.
