DALLAS (AP) -- The suspect in the kidnapping and murder of a Texas convenience store clerk is an unregistered sex offender who served time in prison for aggravated sexual assault.

Wallace Bowman Junior was arrested Saturday, one day after Mindy Daffern was taken at gunpoint from the store her family owned in Scotland, more than 100 miles northwest of Dallas.

Store surveillance video showed Daffern being confronted, then taken away, by a man with a gun. The man seemed oblivious to the cameras that captured a clear picture of his face.

Daffern's body was later found in a remote part of a neighboring county.

After he was arrested at a motel, Bowman said he'd let Daffern go and saw her run across a field. But authorities say he later took them to her body.

Authorities expect to charge Bowman with capital murder.
