WASHINGTON (AP) -- The financial bailout bill that's now law includes an especially sweet part for New Mexico Senator Pete Domenici.

And it has nothing to do with shaky mortgages or higher insurance on bank deposits.

The new law requires insurance plans to treat mental health patients the same as those with physical ailments.

That means no more higher copays or deductibles for mental health treatments, and no more limits on visits to the doctor that differ from the caps for other patients.

Domenici, who will soon leave office, has been fighting for the change for almost two decades. He and his wife have a daughter diagnosed with atypical schizophrenia. He says he became aware of the struggles of families with mentally ill loved ones after joining a support group.
