LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Lexington police say a robbery suspect has died after a shootout with two officers at a gas station.
The shooting occurred when police responded to a report of a robbery in progress at about 2:45 a.m. EDT Thursday. Police say two officers halted the robbery and confronted the suspect at the back of the business.
After the shooting, the suspect was taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where she later was pronounced dead. The Fayette County coroner's office identified her as 30-year-old Lavonna Marie Dillon.
Police say no one else was injured during the shootout at a Shell gas station on Newtown Pike.
Police say procedures call for the two officers to be placed on modified duty pending the outcome of an investigation.
