ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (AP) -- The trial of a man charged in a central Kentucky double slaying has been put on hold after his attorneys asked for a mistrial citing new evidence.
The News-Enterprise of Elizabethtown reports that prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed to postpone all proceedings until Monday afternoon before deciding on whether a mistrial is warranted.
The move came as a jury was being selected in the trial of Brent Burke, who is charged with murdering his estranged wife and her former mother-in-law on Sept. 11, 2007 in Rineyville.
Defense attorney David Broderick said prosecutors only recently gave him police interview tapes that include a juvenile claiming to have committed the slayings, but later recanting.
Prosecutor Chris Shaw said the boy's claims were not credible.
