KINGSTON, Tenn. (AP/WVLT) -- Police say the driver of a van that crashed into a beauty salon in Kingston that injured 10 people has been cited with driving without insurance.
Kingston Police Chief Jim Washam told The Knoxville News Sentinel that Richard Ward will be financially liable for the crash, which includes damage to the building and hospital bills of those who were injured.
Ward was driving his van last Tuesday when he suffered a seizure and crashed into the front of the salon. Six people were airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
According to a staffer in the Kingston City Manager's office, many of beauty salon crash victims do not have medical insurance, and the building owners didn't have insurance, either.
"For several of the employees they have lost their only source of income and those injured are facing huge medical bills," said city manger employee Joyce Lewis, in an email to Volunteer TV News.
She says a fund was established at ORNL Federal Credit Union to assist in paying the victims' medical bills. If you are interested in donating, you can do so at the bank, located at 1204 N. Kentucky Street in Kingston.
