BEAN STATION, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A great big bundle of joy came home Tuesday in Bean Station.

He may be Mommy's Little Man, but Lucas Dale Lefevers is one big baby boy.

"He was 13 pounds, 7 ounces when he was born," said mom Meta Lefevers, alongside husband Burton.

"We were surprised. very surprised, kinda overwhelmed," she said. "You know it's not a newborn anymore. He's still a newborn but not newborn clothes, or newborn diapers or any of those things."

Meta had a Cesarean section Friday at Morristown Hamblen Healthcare System, two weeks before her due date. Lucas weighed in almost twice the size of the average newborn. Nurses say they don't remember another baby topping 13 pounds in the last twenty years.

"We knew he was going to be at least 12 pounds, but we really didn't realize that he was going to be so much bigger. A whole pound bigger," she said.

Meta says gestational diabetes may have contributed to his size. Lucas' big brother, two-year-old Owen, was also a heavyweight.

"His brother was 11 lb 3 oz when he was born, and he was four weeks early," she said.

Mom says she's glad to have some of the weight off. "I'd gained about 56 pounds and most of it was in the last couple months. So yeah, I was big and miserable, and the hot weather did not help at all whatsoever."

Lucas has already outgrown baby shower gifts. Clothes and diapers were sent back to the store.

"Even if they buy you a size bigger, we're actually two sizes bigger. He come home in 3 to 6 months clothing."

Except for some fading jaundice, Lucas is perfectly healthy. "He's good," said Meta. "No health problems because of his size, or the diabetes or anything. He's just a big healthy baby."

"It's worth any suffering you have to go through, when you have your healthy baby at home with you."

The Lefevers say hospital staff nicknamed Lucas "Moose" because of his size. He's only five days old, but they think it's a nickname that will probably stick.
