KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- He's walking from Atlantic to Pacific, barefoot, and it's all for Armed Forces veterans.
Ron Zaleski is a former U.S. Marine who's walking from Boston to Los Angeles with a weight on his shoulders.
He wears a sign on his shoulders that says, "18 vets a day commit suicide," hoping to raise awareness about veterans affected by post-traumatic stress disorder.
As part of his organization, TheLongWalkHome.org, Zaleski is asking Congress to provide more resources for vets who have recently come home from war.
"If we can give them tools so that they can integrate back into the civilian world, and keep their marriage together, then we won't have all this collateral damage," says Zaleski. "The suicide is the tip of the iceberg. The iceberg is the families that are destroyed, the children's lives that are changed forever by their parents coming home from the war."
