Knoxville (WVLT) - A man is facing multiple charges after police say he caused an accident that killed a Knoxville man.

Officers say the crash happened at about 4:45 p.m. Saturday on I-140 Westbound just east of Northshore Drive.

They say 20 year-old Gabriel Cordova De La Rosa was driving his Chevy Blazer at a high rate of speed when he hit a Kia.

The impact forced the Kia off the road, it flipped several times and came to a rest 70 yards from the road.

Paramedics took the driver, 32 year-old Justin Smith of Knoxville, to U.T. Medical Center, where he later died.

Police say De La Rosa left the scene of the accident but was later detained by a concerned citizen.

De La Rosa is now at the Knox County Detention Center facing eight charges including vehicular homicide, drunk driving, and failure to render aid.

It is time we put a STOP to this group continuesly getting a FREE ride in t OUR COUNTRY. We need to place them in JAIL for crimes they commit and Deport the rest of them that are ILLEGALLY in this country. Unless I miss understood what ILLEGAL!

Illegal aliens are not the problem here. The problem is that this man was drunk. The state needs to have harsher penalties for drunk driving.

"IF" this is an illegal alien, the public needs to be informed on the actual criminal acts committed by this group. The figures will astound you. And, we are supposed to look away??? Since when does a law enforcement officer give an American a pass on criminal behavior. The illegal aliens get that pass all the time.

This is so sad and uncalled for. The family of Justin will be in my prayers. I just don't understand why our government doesn't see how these people are affecting our country.
