NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- An aide to state Sen. Andy Berke has resigned after being cited in an Internet prostitution sting in Nashville.

Berke, a Chattanooga Democrat, said Christopher Smith resigned last week after being charged with a misdemeanor. The 28-year-old Smith was among 18 people charged.

Police say the men solicited prostitutes from the Craigslist Web site and then struck deals for sex with an undercover officer.

An attorney for Smith did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment.
