KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Two firefighters were hurt battling a duplex fire this afternoon in the Fourth and Gill neighborhood, but their injuries are minor.
Knoxville Fire Captain Brent Seymour tells Volunteer TV that one firefighter was burned, the other sustained an eye injury. Both were treated at Saint Mary's Hospital, and are expected to be back on the job this afternoon.
Seymour says the fire apparently started in the living room of the left-side unit of a duplex at 704 Haynes Place, and when the first engine got there flames had started to move into the attic. There was heavy damage to that unit, and the right side of the duplex received heavy smoke and water damage, Seymour says.
No one was home at the time, but the residents of the burned unit had only been gone about half an hour when the blaze was reported.
