KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Two cars and a tractor trailer crashed on I-40 East near I-640 East Monday.
Knoxville Police Spokesman Darrell DeBusk says Duc Nguyen, 24, was headed east on I-40 and we preparing to take the ramp to I-640 east when he changed lanes and clipped a semi.
DeBusk says Nguyen's 2007 Honda Civic started spinning, and was broadsided by the tractor trailer. A woman in a nearby car ran into the dividing wall to keep from hitting Nguyen.
Nguyen was taken to Park West Hospital with minor injuries. He has been cited for an improper lane change.
The crash happened near where I-40 now goes down to two lanes for through traffic, and a third lane has been added to the I-640 eastbound ramp as part of the SmartFIX40 project, but DeBusk says the wreck does not appear to have been caused by the SmartFIX40 changes.
