MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A new gas station opened last week in Maryville and they're now selling gas at the lowest price we could find in East Tennessee.
That's $0.20 cheaper than the store across the street, and now another station's joining in to match their price.
The Murphy station here at Wal-Mart opened a week ago, and the price is $3.35 a gallon. Compare that with the BP station at $3.55 a gallon just across the street.
Meanwhile, the Weigel's down the road here on Highway 411 is matching the price, and the lines are forming at both stations for that $0.20 per gallon savings.
Harry Fergeson is shocked by the price, and says, "$3.35. That's the only place around to get this gas at that price."
At Murphy U.S.A at Walmart and Weigle's down Highway 411, cars are lining up and customers are buying.
So much so that Weigel's ran out, so people began buying premium for the price at competitors stations and still wanting more.
Dwight Cagle wants to buy more and says, "I'll be back. I'll be back when they get that in there."
Not long after, the truck rolled in bringing more gas at the same cheap price, and the out of gas signs were taken down.
But why such a price difference?
Driver Vickie Hughes says, simply, "Walmart."
A look around at other nearby stations, there's no line, no wait, but a higher price.
Ann Graf is a self-described gas price watcher and says, "I watch the price like a hawk. I do. I mean, I live in Knoxville."
But when will the price go up like the others? That's a question these customers are answering by saying pump now, ask questions later.
Jim Watson rushed to the station to get some gas and says, "I wanted to get back here as soon as I could because I seen the place up the street was 20 cents higher."
Graf says, "And you notice I'm putting right to the last drop. It tells me I can't put anymore in. But I'm going to go as far as I can."
At Murphy, if you use a Wal-Mart gift card you'll get an extra $0.03 off.
