JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- Rain helped as firefighters continued to battle a wildfire on Buffalo Mountain near Johnson City.
U.S. Forest Service incident commander Guy Street said Friday that firefighters cut containment lines around a 1,500-acre section and the fire had burned about 1,200 acres within in.
Rain fell overnight Thursday, dampening fuel and slowing the fire.
Street said the fire began along a hiking trail and was likely caused by humans, but said it could be anything from a cooking fire getting out of hand to arson.
About 50 firefighters worked to contain the blaze Thursday.
No homes were damaged and there were no reported injuries.
