KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A state report shows neglect of a resident at a Knoxville nursing home led to the amputation of her leg last month.

A podiatrist who examined the pressure wound that led to the amputation called it the worst wound he had seen in 12 years.

Tennessee Health Commissioner Susan Cooper said earlier this week that Hillcrest-West may not accept new patients until problems with resident protection, records and reporting and nursing standards are corrected. The nursing home is appealing.

The state has censured the nursing home for providing substandard care three times in the past two years.

Hillcrest Healthcare President Carolyn Pointer says they are taking the report's findings seriously, but she disputed the state's finding that some patients are in immediate jeopardy.
