MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The jury says a Maryville man charged with the murder of his wife nearly four and a half years ago is guilty of first degree murder, and the judge has sentenced him to life with the possibility of parole.

Prosecutors were not seeking the death penalty, and jurors came back with verdict Friday afternoon.

Stanley Hill contends his wife Vickie asked him to help her commit suicide.

Hill said his wife told him it was time, rolled off her bed, and hung herself using a rope on December 31, 2003.

Prosecutors said there were plenty of inconsistencies in his story.
