DYERSBURG, Tenn. (AP) -- A former Dyersburg High School volunteer track coach has pleaded guilty in Knoxville to raping a 14-year-old girl before a meet in November 2006.
Timothy Byars was sentenced to just under two years in prison.
The penalty combines the rape charge with a second sexual battery charge from Nashville in an incident that occurred earlier that night against the rape victim's sister, who was a teenager at the time.
Knox County Criminal Court Judge Mary Beth Leibowitz also sentenced Byars to seven years of probation. Additionally, he will be required to register as a sex offender.
