WASHINGTON, D.C. (WVLT) – The United States Military has launched a fact-finding mission to figure out whether the Army had any intelligence about a possible Taliban assault in Afghanistan that killed nine U.S. troops, including Clinton, Tenn. native Jason Hovater, 24, according the CNN.

The probe is geared toward finding out if the attacked troops had access to information the Army may have had pointing to the possibility of an attack on the soldiers, according to CNN.

CNN reports that U.S. and Afghan troops, including Hovater, were preparing to set up a coalition observation point at the time of the assault.

It was the deadliest attack on American troops in three years in Afghanistan.
