HAWKINS COUNTY (WVLT) – An East Tennessee soldier remained missing early Sunday morning after disappearing from her Texas sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning.

According to El Paso police, Private First Class Jeneesa Lewis, 29 of Rogersville didn’t report for duty Friday morning at Fort Bliss. They think she may be with her husband and suspect foul play.

"That's the first thing that came to my mind,” said Tammy Skelton, Pfc. Lewis’s sister, “’oh my gosh, he took her.’"

Skelton last saw her sister two weeks ago, in the form of a home video tape.

"I love and I miss you, very, very, very much," Pfc. Lewis said into the camera. "I'll see you when I can come see you."

A little more than 24 hours after she was reported missing, Skelton still worried that the recording could be the last time she would get to see her sister.

"I can't stand this, I want to know where she is," she said. “If I could trade places with her, I would.”

Family members said the soldier married Clinton William Lewis, 34 about two years ago, but their marriage was troubled as Lewis became very controlling.

"She was only allowed to go to work and come back,” Skelton said. “If she looked at another man, he would beat her up.”

In September 2007, Jeneesa Lewis enlisted in the Army to get away from her husband, but he followed her south.

“She had to get rid of the excess baggage, but that was really hard to do because he wouldn't let her,” said Delores Pigeon, Lewis’s grandmother

Skelton said her sister left her husband earlier in the week and in her text messages she seemed to be happy.

According to the Associated Press, one of the messages sent on Wednesday read, “hey sis he's gone so when my check comes I'm going to buy a futon."

In a later message she told Skelton, "yeah, he's gone. Had police go with me yesterday, it's all clear."

"I just want her safe, home, somewhere where I can see her," Skelton said.

Pfc. Jeneesa Lewis' three children stayed in Hawkins County, when their mother joined the army. Her family said they were safe with relatives.

According to investigators, Pfc. Lewis and her husband may be traveling in a white, 2001 Dodge Dakota with Texas plates 20ZFD7. If you have any information, please call your nearest police department.
