ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- A Tennessee Valley Authority official says the utility has embraced technology to reduce emissions at its coal-fired generating plants.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reports that John Myers testified Wednesday in U.S. District Court the TVA burns more coal than North Carolina generating plants, but emits about the same level of sulfur dioxide.
The testimony came in the second week of the lawsuit brought against the TVA by the state of North Carolina. The state wants a judge to force the utility to abide by the same rules required of North Carolina utilities.
Myers said on cross-examination that North Carolina utilities are in a position to make sharp cuts in emissions.
