KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Two Knoxville area companies that manufacture components for the automobile industry plan to downsize, leaving 104 workers without a job.

Racine, Wis.-based Modine Manufacturing Co. will close its Clinton plant Aug. 29 and lay off 53 people. The plant makes replacement radiators for Chrysler vehicles.

Knoxville-based ARC Automotive Inc., an airbag manufacturer, will lay off 51 of its 300 employees.

Both companies have been plagued by sluggish sales in the automobile industry.
