MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- The medical examiner has ruled that the seven people killed in a Memphis house fire Saturday died from smoke inhalation and burns.
A release Tuesday from the Shelby County Medical Examiner's office says positive identification of the victims is still pending and DNA analysis of the remains could take eight weeks.
But relatives have identified family members in the house when it burned as Melissa Poole, 38; four of her children, Deon Poole, 18, Diamond Poole, 9, Dajanique Poole, 7, and DaShaun Poole, 5; and a niece and a nephew, Arianna Poole, 4, and Rodney Poole, 1.
Relatives said the niece and nephew were visiting overnight.
Two teenagers and an 11-year-old boy escaped, suffering non-critical burns and smoke inhalation.
Investigators believe the fire was an accident but have been unable to determine the cause.
