SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Sevier County Commission member Arlie "Max" Watson and community group leader Peggy Marshall are suing Mayor Larry Waters because he moved a commission meeting.

According to The Knoxville News Sentinel, the suit was filed last week in Chancery Court at Sevierville. It asks the court to declare the action unlawful and void all action taken during the meeting.

Waters also serves as chairman of the commission. The plaintiffs claim he acted beyond his authority in moving the scheduled meeting from June 16 to June 23 because budget proposals weren't ready to be presented.

The lawsuit claims statute allows for special meetings to be called, but not regular meetings to be canceled.

Waters said he turned the lawsuit over to attorneys and declined comment on specifics.
