KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Parents picked up their children from Central Baptist Church just down the road from the school where a student was shot an killed.

Parents arrived at the church here with a little higher blood pressure, but they got a sense of comfort once they saw their child was ok.

Hugs, pats on the back, and other signs of comfort have been shared at the church. There's a lot of emotion as children told their parents what happened from their own perspective -- after some saw, while other did not.

Some parents say they were frustrated in being able to get their child, while others say they're thankful just to be able to hold their child.

Parent Pamela Chesney says, "I'm here at the church, and there telling us to come back to the school, go back to the church. It's very confusing, especially when you know your child is in the midst of it, and both of them were in the cafeteria."

Parent Teena Waggoner says, "I have another son that goes to Campbell County Schools, and it happened there."

A couple of hours after the shooting, one mother said she was still feeling some anxiety. She came to the church looking for her child, but was told he's still at the school. She's was told he's ok, but as she left, she said that she would not be ok until she holds him in her arms.

Collectively, the students may be in better shape than their parents, at least for now, because, as one of them puts it, "It hasn't hit us yet."

I wanted to address something that Micehlle from Sevierville said about kids hating school. I am an English teacher at a Highschool and my heart is broken for all of you. It is broken for the death of a boy who had it hard from the beginning, but it is also broken for all of you how have it hard everyday and still find a way to make it to school. It is sad that you have to deal with the "sex in the bathrooms" and self centered adults. I wish it wasn't that way for you. I try very hard to make my students feel important and cared about, from what they tell me I guess I do ok. Please know that not all adults are bad, just like not all kids are bad. I am praying. For ALL of you.

I am a student at Central High School and I am very shocked about all this. I was on my way to the band room just before it happened. Many of us didn't believe our classmates when they told us someone had been shot. After people were running away screaming, I knew that they were serious. It was a very scary time for all of us. Many were in tears. I didn't personally know Ryan, but I will be praying for his friends and family. The bright side of all this is that at least Jamar did't go on a rampage and take more lives from our beloved school.

Kids hate rules and other people being better than them. I dropped out of my freshman year a little over a year ago because I got pregnant and being at school during my pregnancy wasn't the way I wanted to have my baby. Their are drugs and stolen items being sold in the bathrooms, by lockers, even during lunch. Sex in the bathrooms during lunch and classes. I'm not saying all schools are like that but Northview Middle in Kodak and Sevier county High is like that. Teachers would know these things if it wasn't for them being wrapped up in their personal lives and work to having time to sit down and talk with the kids when the kids want to talk. Schools are for kids not adults. the kids should be the main focus. not the teachers. if that happens I can garentee that things will be much better. Parents, why do you think your kids dont want to go to school. cause their not the center of attention. Thats all kids want from the time their born to they get their first job. think about it.
