LOUDON COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Loudon County daycare has voluntarily suspended its license after the owner and boyfriend were both allegedly found with prescription drugs and marijuana.
The father of one of the children believes he saw marijuana being used behind the daycare when he made an unexpected visit, so he called authorities.
An investigation resulted in two arrests, but this daycare has had problems before.
The mother of one of the children attending the daycare is not from Tennessee and wonders why she wasn't notified of those previous problems.
The owner of Discovery Depot Learning Center in Lenoir City greed to the voluntary suspension after a police investigation into the owner and her boyfriend.
Loudon County Sheriff Tim Guider says, "There may have been some drug use, smoking marijuana perhaps at the daycare."
The investigation led to the arrest of the daycares owner, Meredith Preston on charges of possession of Xanax after a search of her car.
Preston's boyfriend, Decker Adam Hicks, was charged with marijuana possession after the drug was allegedly found on him while at the daycare.
The investigation began after a parent went to pick up his child only to find several children inside and alone.
Rachel Delp discovered the children unattended.
She says, "You know, they're outside smoking a joint. How the hell are they going to know if one falls?”
Delp says she just began using the daycare two months ago but says she was lied to when she found out about the daycare going on probation.
Delp says, "From what she told me she did not write a child's name on a plastic cup. That's why she was on supervision."
State records show the daycare went on probation in March for numerous violations including failing to properly supervise and failure to keep areas free of hazards.
Delp feels that because it's mandatory she give her child's shot records to a daycare, then it should be mandatory parents be given a daycare's state records.
Delp says, "You sign off on it when you read it and you tell me that you've seen it. That way we have a clear understanding."
The Department of Human Services urges parents to check out the Web sites listed below, and to ask questions about a daycare before placing your child.
However, information about complaints against daycare facilities is not available online. To get that you need to contact your local licensing office.
