TIPTONVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A former West Tennessee teacher has pleaded no contest to a statutory rape charge.

Thirty-eight-year-old Tracy Hinson -- a longtime teacher and cheerleading coach at Lake County High School -- was accused of having sex with a male student. She entered a no-contest plea in a Lake County court on Tuesday that has the same legal effect as a guilty plea.

Hinson was placed on judicial diversion, a form of probation, for two years.

She resigned from teaching in May while under investigation on allegations of improper conduct with a student.

If the roles were reversed(the teache a male and the student a female) they wouldhave been throw in jail for years. how is that fair. Remember the couple at the church who had relationships with 16yros. They should be allowed to serve the same sentence. fair enough, right? or are women treated different?

I'm curious as to whether she will have to register as a sex offender or if she will be afforded the same privileges of no record and no registration that the Claiborne County sheriff received.
