MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- A former sheriff's deputy is charged with first-degree murder in the death of a disc jockey at a Memphis karaoke bar.
Former deputy Chris M. Jones was originally charged with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting, but a grand jury has now indicted him on the more serious charge.
The 40-year-old Jones is accused of opening fire with a handgun on March 14 at the Windjammer Restaurant during an argument with patrons and employees. He was off duty at the time.
Forty-two-year-old disc jockey Donald Munsey was killed and 22-year-old customer Justin Smith was wounded.
Jones was also indicted on two charges of attempted first-degree murder. He is jailed under $500,000 bond.
