KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Roane County woman has been arrested and charged with four counts of TennCare fraud in Putnam County, according to a Tennessee Office of Inspector General release.

Carol A. Gatewood, 47, of Rockwood was arrested in Putnam County with the help of the Roane County Sheriff's Department.

Gatewood is accused of "fraudulently using TennCare to obtain controlled substances by 'doctor shopping.'"

The Inspector General's release says, "According to the indictment, Gatewood failed to disclose to her doctor that she had seen other physicians within a 30-day period, receiving prescriptions for the strong painkiller Oxycodone."

Those doctor visits were paid for by TennCare, according to the OIG.

This is the type of garbage we are supporting with our tax dollars by funding welfare programs. This individual is one small part of a major problem. Many doctors think of TennCare as a cash cow. They have to find something wrong with these people to keep the dollars coming their way. By eliminating the TennCare Program (and it's new face) these people will find a job once they realize the money train has dried up.

They should have been getting these people a long time ago. Alot of people on tenncare have been doing this for years now. The people that have these benefits need to be monitored more closely. It would be less expensive for the tax payers to monitor them than it would be to supply the drugs they abuse and sell.
