NASHVILLE, Tenn. (SUBMITTED) - The Tennessee National Guard has now mobilized more than 1,100 soldiers and airmen to assist in relief efforts along the Gulf Coast, plus another 350 have been on duty within the state providing command and control of the deployed units and assisting with the more than 4,000 evacuees brought to Tennessee.
The total number deployed includes an additional 550 soldiers of a task
force expected to depart early Saturday morning for Gulf Coast destinations.
These represent units and equipment from:
Combat Service Support Battalion, Johnson City; 730th Quartermaster Co.,
Erwin; 777th Maintenance Co., Smyrna and Sparta; 1171st Transportation Co.,
Dresden and Tiptonville; 105th Human Resources Co., Nashville.
Other Tennessee National Guard units already deployed to assist along the
Gulf coast are:
* 118th Aero medical Evacuation Squadron, Tennessee Air National Guard,
Nashville
* 5th Civil Support Team, Smyrna
* Six (6) OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopters and crews from 1/230th Air
Cavalry Squadron, Smyrna
* Six (6) UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters and crews from 1/230th Air Cavalry
Squadron, Smyrna
* 228th Combat Communications Squadron, Tennessee Air Guard, Knoxville
* 230th Signal Company, Nashville
* 2nd Squadron, 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment, Cookeville.
