UPDATE 9/8/08 11:55 p.m.: KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- State's attorney's are using Eric McLean's own words against him in his so-called love-triangle murder trial.
Jurors have now heard what detectives say Eric McLean said to them during an interview shortly after he was arrested.
McLean talked to investigators on March 11, 2007, one day after 18-year-old Sean Powell was shot and killed while sitting unarmed in his car outside McLean's house on Coker Avenue.
According to testimony at trial, Powell was involved in a sexual relationship with McLean's wife Erin, his former student-teacher at West High School.
Prosecutors argue it was a premeditated killing.
They'll ask for a first degree murder conviction that could lead to life in prison.
The defense will argue the shooting was an accident, or manslaughter at worst.
Lead investigator Andrew Boatman says McLean told him he'd learned about his wife's affair with Powell a month-and-a-half earlier.
The detective says McLean told him he remembered asking Powell to leave his house and that everything after that was a blank.
Investigator Boatman says, "Once he told me that it was all a blank, I asked him if he remembered shooting someone. He nodded his head on the affirmative."
Prosecutors won't say when or if jurors will get a chance to hear from Erin mcLean, though she is on the state's witness list.

KNOXVILLE (WVLT) -- Testimony continued on Sunday in the so-called "Love-Triangle Murder" trial, with both the prosecution and defense questioning three witnesses who knew victim Sean Powel, 18, nearly his whole life.
Debra Flynn, Sean's biological mother, received the news of his death on March 10, 2007 thanks to a phone call from Erin McLean, the wife of accused gunman Eric McLean
"I picked up the phone and a woman said that Sean had been shot and was dead," she testified.
Flynn then called Scarlett Powell, the teen’s adopted mother who told the court room that at first, she didn’t believe what she had heard.
"I said 'it has to be a joke, it can't be right because he just walked out the door,'" she testified.
The adoptive mother explained that she was still in shock when she decided to call up Erin McLean to get the news first hand.
“I asked her, ‘who shot him,’ and she answered ‘the psychopath.’ Then I asked, ‘what is his name’, and she said, ‘I don't know.’"
According to Mrs. Powell, Erin McLean had called her once before to talk about the teen getting caught with alcohol in a parking lot. She testified that she told Erin McLean the call was inappropriate. Still, she had no clue about Sean’s relation with the student-teacher, but was aware that her adoptive son had a girlfriend named Erin Myers.
"I asked him if she was 19 or 20 and he just said ‘yes,’" Mrs. Powell said.
After leaving school for good, Sean wanted to move to Middle Tennessee so he could live with his birth mother. The adoptive parents agreed, and he attempted to make a fresh start in Cookeville.
Less than three weeks before he was gunned down, the teen returned to Knoxville. His biological mother told the court that he moved back after receiving several text messages from a woman she believed was Erin McLean
"It just said, ‘come home, I love you, you're beautiful,’" Flynn testified.
Eric McLean is accused of shooting Powell in the head as Powell sat unarmed in his Mercedes outside McLean's Coker Avenue home in northeast Knoxville.
Powell was reportedly having an affair with McLean's wife, Erin McLean, who was Powell's student-teacher at West High School.
Erin McLean is on the prosecutors witness list, however it is unknown if she will take the stand during the trial. Testimony will resume on Monday morning, when the medical examiner is expected to testify. Some courthouse sources believe the state may rest its case by the end of the day.
