CROSSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Five people escaped unharmed from a burning home in Cumberland County, where smoke detectors were installed recently.
The fire broke out before dawn Thursday at the home Rita Davis, her three children and her boyfriend Dale Knabe lived.
The Crossville Chronicle quoted Davis as saying she had paused at the end of her cashier shift at a Wal-Mart two weeks ago and bought two smoke detectors, which Knabe installed the same day.
The alarms sounded Thursday morning, allowing Davis, her 3-year-old twins and 7-year-old son and Knabe to escape the flames.
Chief Jeff Dodson of the Cumberland County Fire Department said the fire appeared to have been electrical in origin.
