CLINTON, Tenn. (WVLT) – A major auto parts company that already has a plant in East Tennessee is expanding, and will create more than 150 new jobs.
That’s great news for a small town and a struggling economy.
Since 2004, Aisin, a leading manufacturer of auto parts, has been bringing economic growth to Clinton Tennessee.
Now, despite an economic downturn, the company is growing, and Clinton is reaping the rewards.
Clinton Mayor Wimp Shoopman says, “To be able to support them means a lot of employment, the economy, and just gives a better quality of life for the citizens of Clinton, Tenn.”
A ribbon cutting Wednesday signified an expansion from the current 260,000 square feet to an additional 240,000 square feet.
Aisin Tennessee President Steve Barnes says, “ Our initial phase will now include the 4C engine for the new Toyota Camry…We’ve added a lot of equipment, machine equipment as well as new assembly equipment.”
More space means more jobs, too.
Barnes says, “The initial phase was 400 employees and we have through the end of 2010 when it will be around 600.”
It’s a boost leaders say will benefit more than just this small town.
Barnes says, “No matter where Aisin locates, we will always want to be a good partner with the community.”
Mayor Shoopman says, “What is good for Anderson County and Clinton is good for all areas as well.”
As a symbol of good will, Aisin presented both the City of Clint and the Anderson County Education Foundation with checks for $5,000.
