KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Knoxville firefighters were called to UT Medical Center around noon Monday on a report of an ambulance on fire in the emergency room ambulance bay.
Hospital officials say the ambulance was carrying a patient when ambulance personnel noticed smoke coming from underneath the hood after putting the ambulance into park. The patient was quickly taken off of the ambulance, and moved into the hospital, according to hospital officials.
After the patient was safely off the ambulance, officials say, the crew grabbed a fire extinguisher to douse the fire in the engine compartment.
Hospital operations were not disrupted during the incident, and no one, including the patient on the ambulance, was hurt.
