NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Three more members of a nationwide street gang have been sentenced for racketeering, bringing to 10 the number sent to prison in Nashville since their indictment in January 2007.
Ernesto Isai "Joker" Mendez-Tovar received a 13-year term. Eliseo "Smokey" Iglesias was sentenced to more than 17 years. David Alexander "Psycho" Gonzalez received a term of more than 19 years.
All three of the MS-13 gang members had pleaded guilty and were sentenced beginning Friday by Chief U.S. District Judge Todd J. Campbell.
The indictment accused them of conspiring to participate in a pattern of racketeering in the Nashville area, including murder and attempted murder.
MS-13 also is known as La Mara Salvatrucha, a Salvadoran gang that started in Los Angeles. It's one of the largest and most violent street gangs in the country and its activities have also been spread to Central America by deported members.
