NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee state employees are saying farewell to hard copies of their paychecks.

As of Wednesday's payroll, the state is no longer sending printouts of paycheck information to 37,000 state employees through the mail.

The move is meant to cut the state's annual postage costs by about $500,000 a year and to streamline the payroll process.

State workers now log their hours in an online system and can check the accuracy of their paychecks several days before the money is deposited in their accounts.

Spokeswoman Lola Potter says officials are keeping an eye out for any glitches, but that she has heard of no problems so far.
