MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- A West Tennessee police officer faces federal drug charges and is accused of selling the pain killer hydrocodone to youngsters at a drive-in restaurant.

William Patrick Jordan, an officer with the Bolivar Police Department, faces charges filed by federal prosecutors in Memphis on Friday.

An affidavit from an officer with the West Tennessee Drug Task Force says Jordan bought tablets of the powerful painkilling drug from an undercover informant. The affidavit also says authorities began investigating Jordan on reports he was selling drugs to "young girls at a Sonic Drive-in in Bolivar."

Courts records say Jordan will be represented by a public defender but did not indicate if one had been appointed for him. He does not have a listed phone number in Bolivar.

Just when you think you have heard it all, this happens. He went through extensive police training. He is supposed to recognize the good guys from the bad guys. How did he slip through the cracks. A good word from his pastor? Someone on the force already? It looks as if there is no facet of society that can be trusted. It is beginning to sound like we have become our own worst enemy. Maybe it is time to Federalize law enforcement everywhere. No more good ole boy cops. Or, can we trust the federal government? Look at the mess we are in. Can anybody out there help us? Firefighters setting fires and police officers selling drugs. Pastors leading young ones astray. It is no wonder that Prozac is being sold in record numbers. I remember when The Waltons was the most popular television show. Now, the people are watching other people make fools of themselves on American Idol. It is all about a "ME" society rather than us all pulling together to help one's neighbor.
