A former Knox County Commissioner says he's retiring as a high school teacher, amid claims he's been insubordinate.

Mike McMillan taught at Gibbs High School and is accused of insubordination.

McMillan had been teaching for 35 years, most recently, history at Gibbs High School

But Knox County's new superintendent, Dr. James McIntyre says Mr. McMillan failed to turn in last year's world history test packet when required, and that he'd kept an inappopriate book at school.

McMillan says he'd confiscated that book from a student.

The district says McMillan turned in his resignation yesterday.

Otherwise, the board would use Dr. McIntyre's accusations to determine whether to McMillan should be fired.

You're kidding right! Mike McMillian was and is a joke as an educator! While there were and are many GREAT educators at GHS; he's not one of them. There are a couple of other teachers at GHS that only have a job because of tenure and they are providing a gross mis-service to our children and community. Thank God for those that WANT to teach and do it well!

All I can say is good luck to Mr. McMillan. There is no joy in someone losing their job. I guess he'll lose his license to teach, so now he can start a new career, if he chooses. Several options come in mind, working as a doorgreeter or stock person at Wal-Mart, Stocking shelves or bagging groceries at any local grocery store, working in a landfill or dump, getting a job working in a warehouse or factory , working as a grill cook for McDonald's or other fast food, washing dishes for a local restaurant. Any rate, he's got time to think about his career options now.

I am not shocked at the way Knox County School System did Mr. McMillan. They also did me wrong last year. I was not a teacher but was let go because my supervisor and I had a disagreement. I received no help from anyone in the county though I made several attempts to get someone to listen to me. Gibbs lost a good worker then and they are losing one now.
