How to save on your flights from Tennessee
Holiday flights are still available, some at a high price, but there are still ways to save on those tickets. Posted: 6:15 PM Nov 11, 2008Reporter: Heather Haley Email Address: heather.haley@wvlt-tv.com |

KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) -- If you haven't already made your travel plans for the holidays, the good news is you still can, but at a price.
If you want to fly for Thanksgiving, hopefully, you already have that booked, but if you're looking at Christmas or New Year's you're in luck.
If you consider availability at a high price luck, but there are still ways to save.
Chris Phillips is headed home to Kingston after his business trip to California, and flying on a weekday morning, helped to make it a comfortable flight.
Chris says "you had nobody beside of you and there was 3 on each side so there was 1 empty seat between if not 2 empty seats so you could stretch out, lay down."
A frequent flier with trips booked for Thanksgiving and Christmas, Chris says he's surprised there are still flights available.
Chris says "usually if you go through Christmas, it's hard to find a seat."
While tickets are still available, Sandy Hampton with World Travel Service says now is the time to book.
Sandy says "normally in November, if you're wanting to travel over Christmas and New Years and you haven't already booked it, you're not going to be able to book it."
But some prices are still high. A few examples of flights out of Knoxville for around Christmas to some major cities include Chicago at $245 a person, and a flight to New York $355, and Los Angeles tickets cost $443.
Sandy says "the airlines have cut some of the service so we don't have as many planes flying."
Airlines like Delta and United are emailing out specials as low as $49.
You won't find flights that cheap out of here, but off peak times and dates help to get that better rate.
Chris says "because sometimes you may be able to book it a couple of days in advance where you could leave 2 days earlier than you expected."
So if you fly early and not the week of Christmas, you should be able to save, but if you have not already made those holiday travel plans, Sandra suggests you make them soon.
She says those available flights, will soon fill up.
