JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- A Johnson City man suspected of carjacking an East Tennessee State University student has been caught driving the stolen car, more than 2,500 miles away.
The Johnson City Press quoted ETSU Public Safety Director Jack Cotrel saying David Lee Forney II was stopped by police in Oakland, Calif., Friday night for playing the stereo of the stolen car too loudly.
The black Mustang was taken from a student who was getting out of it Nov. 10.
Police quickly identified the 38-year-old Forney as the suspect because his dog was left at the scene and had a name tag on its collar.
State warrants against Forney have been replaced by federal charges of carjacking and commission of a felony with a firearm.
